Where do we start?
Ryan Lochte says he was robbed at gunpoint. He was interviewed by a host of media companies and praised for the level-headed way he handled the trauma. He flew home to the USA to more interviews. His swimming teammates tried to head home but were arrested…
… Those teammates shopped Lochte in and said the robbery story was fabricated. CCTV footage then, reportedly, captured the swimmers urinating on a petrol station wall and kicking down a toilet door. Team USA issued an apology. Lochte was indicted. Globo found the petrol station owner for a chat and New York Post called him an ‘ugly American abroad’.
Now, Lochte has apologised.
He admits he got up to hijinks that fateful night but puts it down to the “traumatic” experience of being out with friends in a foreign country ‘with a language barrier’ and having a gun pointed at his head by a stranger.
That’s right, Lochte insists he was mugged at gun-point. His line of apology seems to be that he may have been bold after having some drinks after his mugging.
We highly doubt this is the end of the matter, as much as Lochte would love to leave it there.
