Oscar Pistorius may face an extended spell behind bars after a South African judge upgraded his guilty charge of culpable homicide to that of murder.
The Olympic and Paralympic athlete, who was already serving time for the February 2013 killing of girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in his home.
Pistorius always maintained that he mistook Steenkamp for home invaders when he shot and killed her while she was locked in a bedroom toilet.
Judge Lorimer Leach made the announcement on Thursday morning in Bloemfontein.
Leach commented that the case was ‘a human tragedy of Shakespearean proportions’.
Pistorius was released from prison last October and was serving out his original sentence under house arrest.
