Olympics could be split between host countries

If we can manage a Rugby World Cup then half an Olympics will be no bother

The International Olympic Committee have voted to allow joint bids for the winter and summer Games.

The explosion in the costs of hosting an Olympic Games – fuelled by the incredible roughly €40billion spent on this year’s Winter Olympics in Sochi – has scared off many prospective bidders, leaving the IOC little option but to allow joint bids.

IOC vice-president John Coates said: ‘The compactness of the Games has to be weighed up against the benefit of using existing venues. These changes do contemplate different cities and countries hosting the Games, and this is for reasons of sustainability.’

With Ireland proposing to host the 2023 World Cup, if we can pull that off then we’ve got to be in the frame for half an Olympics, no?
