Wow.
Novak Djokovic is out of Wimbledon. The world number one and defending champion crashed out of the competition to American Sam Querrey. The 28th seed beat the player, who has been practically unbeatable over the past two years, 7-6 (8-6) 6-1 3-6 7-6 (7-5) after a rain delay.
It’s the 29-year-old Serb’s first major loss since the 2015 French Open, his first loss in a Grand Slam in 31 matches and ends his hopes of winning the title for the third straight year.
Djokovic has already won the French and Australian Opens this year, but couldn’t find a way past the 6ft 6in 28-year-old Querrey, who was, as you’d imagine, pretty pleased with his afternoon’s work.
