Judging by his latest comment Justin Gatlin has very little understanding of irony

Someone call Alanis Morissette

Justin Gatlin is not everyone’s cup of tea. In fact he’s pretty much no one’s cup of tea.

The sprinter, who was banned for four years from 2006-2010 for drugs offences, is now running faster than he ever did when he was doping, despite being 33-years-old – an age which should, in theory at least, make him past his peak.

Gatlin recorded a personal best time of  9.74 second in Doha on Friday – the fastest 100m anyone anywhere has run since 2012.

That feat pretty much caused anyone who has even a passing interest in sport to furrow their brow and make a long ‘mmmmmm’ noise like Marge Simpson when she’s not happy with Homer.

Well there’s good news for the sceptics because Gatlin has today been “kicked out” of a meet in Beijing.

The organisers have yet to confirm why this is, though Gatlin says it’s because he has an injury and the organisers fear that he’ll pull out or pull up in the race and still demand his money.

But in giving his reasons Gatlin came out with a quote that proves, once and for all, that irony is dead…

“I’m not the kind of guy to cheat people of their money or let the fans down … that’s not what I do.”

No Justin. You’d never cheat anyone.
