Ireland’s World Cup adventure may have been brought to a close by Pakistan this morning, but the boys in green leave Australia and New Zealand with their reputations enhanced both at home and abroad
Fans worldwide were drawn to the Irish side led by William Porterfield, whose ongoing battle for ICC recognition made them popular underdogs and everyone’s second favourite team.
At home, meanwhile, the game seeped that little bit further into the public’s consciousness, with an ever increasing horde of well-wishers congratulating them on a campaign that yielded three victories, including two against Test-playing nations West Indies and Zimbabwe.
Without doubt, the best fans in the world – the #BlarneyArmy: https://t.co/6kuClEz2JY http://t.co/NSNmesaLpO #BackingGreen

If the English Cricket Board supports reducing the World Cup to 10 teams, they should be told 'you're right, so Ireland can take your place'
