We’re not going away, ICC
Ireland’s cricketers arrived back from the World Cup this morning, and one of the first things captain William Porterfield did was remind the International Cricket Council that they haven’t heard the last of us.
Porterfield has been both strident and eloquent in his efforts to further the cause of Irish and associate cricket in the face of the decision to reduce the number of competing nations at the next World Cup in 2019 by four to just 10, making Ireland’s hopes of reaching the tournament slim.
So when the ICC’s Twitter feed decided to pay tribute to Ireland’s adventure in Australia and New Zealand, Porterfield had the perfect response.
. @ICC so memorable and inspiring that you have decided to cut the next WC to 10 teams. What is your vision for the game of cricket?
