Anyone that has taken the bridge over to Achill will know the giddy sense of expectation. Fun, adventure, fresh air and good times invariably await.
Each of those boxes will be ticked for the participants in the Quest Achill Adventure Race, on September 3.
The race, previously ‘Achill Roar’, takes place on Ireland’s biggest island. The Achiill landscape provides an idyllic backdrop for adventure racing with its dramatic mountains, sandy beaches and the rugged wild Atlantic coastline.
Competitors will run over the majestic mountains and along the sandy beaches, cycle along the rugged routes of the Wild Atlantic Way and kayak on a crystal clear lake.
Over 1,000 brave adventurers will compete in an adrenaline-packed day of adventure. It’s not just for the grizzly, hard-core adventurers, however, as there are 3 different routes, 18km, 31km and 63km. There is a route to suit all levels of fitness.
For most people, adventure races are more about finishing the race rather than speed. It can take anywhere between two to five hours to complete the race. As anyone that has competed in such an event will agree, the sense of achievement is resounding.
The after-party will take place in Gielty’s Bar and Restaurant with a live band to entertain all competitors.
