Lance Armstrong may be a reviled figure in the sports world but you can’t argue with his competitive nature.
So it is nice to see him finding new outlets for his competitive urges, especially when they come with the added bonus of operating beyond the long arm of anti-doping body Wada.
The 43-year-old disgraced cycling champion has tried his hand at the Beer Mile, ostensibly in an attempt to qualify for the World Championships, which are being held in his home town of Austin, Texas next month.

The race requires participants to chug a beer at the start of each of four laps of the track but, despite his albeit artificial track record of elite performance, Armstrong was unable to finish, struggling with his first beer and then completing a lap before tapping out.
‘That was not what I expected,’ the Texan admitted. ‘I’m one and done. That was way different than I thought.’
Don’t give up, Lance, we’re sure there’s a ‘supplement’ programme out there tailor made to the event…
And if you want see how it is done, here is the women’s record being broken a few weeks ago.
