Basketball in Ireland is pretty popular.
Maybe we’re guilty of not giving it enough coverage in the mainstream media but that’s not to say that we never do it.
The last time we covered Irish basketball was when Lorcan Murphy actually ruined the basket in his match against DCU.
Murphy was back in action at the weekend dunking away and we’ll get to that but firstly the DCU Saints were also playing.
They were against Griffith College Swords Thunder in the Hula Hoops Men’s Pat Duffy National Cup with Swords being the reigning champions.
It was meant to be a formality, DCU might put up half a fight but Swords should have just blown them away in the end, they were the favourites after all.
But this is why we love sport, the favourites don’t win all the time and upsets are sweet, the DCU Saints caused that upset at the weekend.
The final scoreline read 75-70 in favour of DCU Saints and, no doubt, they were ecstatic. So much so that they took to Twitter to absolutely ruin their local rivals.
In the week of Ex-hurricane Ophelia and Storm Brian, DCU decided they’d get in to the spirit of things and poke fun at Griffith College Swords Thunder.

Black Amber Templeogue were also in action at the weekend, they beat Belfast Star 90-81 and that was with the help of their star man Lorcan Murphy.
Murphy has made a bit of a name for himself, he likes to dunk.
What’s that saying, ‘Irish men CAN jump’.
Anyway, here he is warming up just reverse dunking because why not?
