The Twenty20 international between Hong Kong and Afghanistan, which was played in Malahide on Tuesday, is under investigation by the ICC who spotted unusual pattern of bets placed on the game.
ESPN’s CricInfo are reporting that the ICC’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit want to speak to betting firms such as Betfair to gather information of what bets were placed on this match.
Cricket matches have often been the targets for Asian betting syndicates who, in what has become known as ‘spot-fixing’, place large wagers on specific incidents to occur during the course of a game, rather than the outcome of the match itself.
Hong Kong recorded a five-wicket victory in the game, which booked them a place at next year’s World T20 in India.
