Will Smith is back in the sports movie game and his latest film looks like a good one.

Smith plays Bennet Omalu, the forensic pathologist credited with discovering CTE, the trauma found in the human brain that can be caused by repeated blows to the head.

The NFL spent many years denying any connection between American football and brain trauma before the overwhelming evidence, much of which came from the brains of former players studied by doctors like Omalu, forced them to accept reality.

The first trailer for the movie has been released this morning, timed perfectly to gain plenty of publicity just ten days from the start of the new NFL season.

Smith looks to be in fine form as he portrays Dr Omalu’s battle to get NFL bosses to recognise his findings and the film is sure to resonate with sports fans over here as well given the increased attention afforded to head injuries in all our major sports.

The movie hits American cinemas in December, before a January release on this side of the pond.
