Video: Ice Hockey player injures himself player pulling off miraculous goal-line save

What a save

Robert Redmond

How did he save this?

College ice-hockey player Louie Belpedio pulled off this amazing goal-line save for Miami University in the game against Providence College.

Miami, who’d took off their goaltender in an effort to chase the game, were trailing 6-5 with a minute remaining in the quarter. The puck is deflected towards the goal, seemingly rolling straight in, but Belpedio gets his skates on (literally), dives at the puck and uses his hockey hurley (it sounds better than ‘hockey stick’) and hits the puck off the post.

Miraculous.

The player gets a face-full of wall for his troubles, one of the commentators laughs at his collision and he has to crawl off the rink injured. His team also eventually lost the game 7-5.

But at least he showed serious commitment to the cause.

We’d invite him to take a bow, if he didn’t seem in considerable physical pain.
