Video: Former NBA star makes kickboxing debut, loses after suffering horrific leg wound

Darko Milicic was picked No 2 overall in the 2003 NBA draft

His name is a byword for NBA failure and his kickboxing debut didn’t go too well either.

The name Darko Milicic is used like a threat in NBA circles. The Serbian seven footer was selected No 2 in the 2003 draft but he never came close to playing up to that level. The Detroit Pistons picked him but as those who went behind him in the draft excelled – players like Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh – Milicic continued to struggle.

He would bounce from the Pistons to a whole host of other NBA teams without ever really settling before eventually retiring officially in June 2013 with 468 games to his name.

Earlier this year Milicic announced he was taking up kickboxing and he made his debut in the ring on Thursday. It didn’t exactly go to plan.

Facing a guy called Radovan Radojcin, Milicic had his legs attacked, a sound strategy by the much smaller Radojcin. It didn’t take too long for the leg attack to take its toll and a huge wound opened up on the former basketballer’s leg.

Despite the best efforts of his corner, the bleeding wouldn’t stop and the referee had to halt the bout. If you just want to skip to the fairly unpleasant injury, head to 3.00.
