Never in doubt.
The one remaining question hanging over the Golden State Warriors incredible start to the season was that they had yet to face their chief rivals, the San Antonio Spurs.
Well, the defending champs hosted the 2014 kings in Oakland last night in the most eagerly anticipated game of the regular season so far and laid the proverbial smack down on the Spurs, dealing them a 120-90 defeat.
The Warriors came into the game at 41-3, on pace to break the Chicago Bulls’ record 72-win season, while the Spurs weren’t far behind at 38-6, but it was clear from the outset that reigning MVP Stephen Curry wasn’t going to let the Warriors’ chief rivals end their unbeaten home record.
The Spurs switched the defensive player of the year and former Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard onto Curry, but there was no stopping the point guard’s relentless onslaught.

Golden State led 62-47 at half-time, and the Spurs, who came into the night with a better point differential than the Warriors, couldn’t contain Curry in the second half either as he racked up 37 points, the most allowed by the Spurs all season.

The sides are due to meet three more times before the end of the season, including twice in the final week of the season, before a possible play-off confrontation in the Western Conference finals.
