Shocking news from the US
Carolina Panthers star man, QB Cam Newton, has been involved what local TV crews are describing as ‘a serious car accident’ in Charlotte this afternoon.
Pictures from the scene purport to show Newton on a stretcher after the collision which involved two cars, and resulted in Newton’s car being flipped onto its side.

There are no reports on the extent of Newton’s, or anyone else’s, injuries at this stage but we will keep you posted
UPDATE: Reports now that Newton was communicating with the ambulance crew.
CMPD officer just confirmed to me Newton was driving. Said he was able to communicate

UPDATE 3: 19.38: Newton is now being assessed at the hospital and will remian there overnight.No fractures or serious injuries have been reported thus far.
UPDATE 4: 20.37: The Panthers have confirmed that Newton has in fact suffered two fractures to his back, an injury similar to the one suffered by Dallas QB Tony Romo.
Further testing revealed that Cam Newton has two transverse process fractures in his lower back and no further internal injuries.
