If Ireland’s all-conquering rugby stars start running up the score against Georgia this weekend and RTÉ run out of hard-hitting analysis, they could do worse than follow the example of ESPN’s Monday Night Football broadcasters.
With the Philadelphia Eagles sitting back on a 30-point fourth-quarter lead over Carolina last night, announcers Mike Tirico and Jon Gruden went all late-night infomercial on us, ostensibly selling viewers on the virtues of the Eagles’ protein shakes.
They even seemed a little disappointed their blender wasn’t plugged in.
