The NBA world has been rocked with the news that Lamar Odom is in a critical condition in hospital.
Deadspin are reprting that Odom is still unconscious and breathing with the aid of machines, more than 12 hours after being rushed to hospital after being discovered unresponsive at a legal brothel in Nevada.
Odom, who’s difficulties with substance abuse has long been documented, was taking Herbal Viagra at the time, according to claims by brothel employees. However, brothel owner Dennis Hof told the Associated Press no one at the business had seen him use illegal drugs.
Employees saw Odom early Tuesday morning in good spirits, but when they went to check on him at around 3 pm that day they found him unconscious and lying face down. When they turned him over “terrible stuff came out” of his nose and mouth.
After being treated at Desert View Hospital by doctors, his condition was deemed serious enough to be airlifted to Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas.
Odom has had a troubled life. He was born to a drug addicted father and raised by his grandmother after his mother died from colon cancer. His lost his six-month-old son to SIDS in 2006, and in 2011, while returning to New York for a cousin’s funeral, he was a passenger in a car accident in which a 15-year-old boy was killed.
