Two senior county football managers have stepped down following defeats

John McIver and Peter Creedon have left their posts as managers of Derry and Tipperary respectively.

McIver called time on his tenure at Derry following their 1-11 to 0-8 loss to Galway in dreadful conditions in Salthill. By next summer, it will have been six years since Derry won a game outside their own county in the qualifiers, and they will have to try to break the hoodoo without the guidance of McIver.

McIver was deeply disappointed with the performance of the referee and announced his resignation in the post-match press conference.

“Players should be deciding games not referees. And that referee decided that game,”

Peter Creedon also stepped down as Tipperary senior football manager following the side's heavy 0-19 to 0-7 defeat to Tyrone in Semple Stadium. The defeat saw the Premier County go crashing out of the All-Ireland series and will mark the end of his three-year  stint in charge of the county. Hat-tip to Irish Times
