Davy Fitzgerald gesture shows exactly what he thinks of eight week ban

Davy Fitzgerald is taking his two match, eight-week ban in good spirits anyway....

As soon as the final whistle had sounded and TG4 had caught up with him, Davy Fitzgerald was realising the enormity of his actions. By entering the field of play and physically engaging with Tipperary's Jason Forde, the Wexford hurling boss had not so much crossed a line in the sand but triple-jumped beyond it and landed in an eye-shielding splash. Asked if he regretted his actions, at the time, Fitzgerald replied 'No!' Pressed on the matter, he reasoned:

"I wouldn't [do anything differently] because it's important to make the point it changed the game," he said. "Maybe plus the fact I was trying to get my own team going, they were after getting a blow, you're trying to rise them and get them going a small bit so there might have been two or three different things I was trying to do in that one. "Do I know it's probably not the right thing? 100 per cent but whatever will be out of it will be out of it, you accept that."

A few days later and punishment was meted out. Fitzgerald was banned for two games, which should equate to eight weeks away from all of Wexford's match preparations and game-day activities. Still, life must go on and Fitzgerald will hope Clare native was in Athenry this weekend and had the good grace to pose for a picture with Paddy Farrell. Fitzgerald had a smile on his face but we're not sure if he should be making light of his ban.
