Club championship pits father versus son in Leinster SFC humdinger

The vagaries of the club championship.

This weekend is throwing up brother versus brother club clashes in Mayo and Kilkenny. Today, at Netwatch Cullen Park, Mick Lillis will try to ensure his son ends up on the losing side. Kieran Lillis played in the Portlaoise team, on Saturday, that defeated Emo in the Laois Senior Football Championship final replay. The victory was their ninth in a row in the O'Moore County and, as captain, Kieran had the honour of raising the trophy. Today, Kieran lines out against the Palatine son coached by his father. Last weekend, Palatine ended a ecent barren period when they saw off the challenge of Old Leighlin to claim their first Carlow senior title since 2006. By 4pm today [unless we get another replay] only one Lillis will be celebrating.
