It appears as though Jose Mourinho is on his way to that stage, though, as the Manchester Evening News report that the new United boss has become frustrated that it's taking so long to sign the Juventus midfielder.
While United remain confident of signing Pogba before next week's Community Shield game against Leicester, Mourinho has reportedly told Ed Woodward that if the French international is not a United player by next week then he must move on to Blaise Matuidi.
Matuidi, an international teammate of Pogba's, was always believed to be an alternative if the Pogba deal didn't come to fruition and now Mourinho has given an official deadline for potentially switching targets.
It should be pointed out that the Matuidi back-up plan is very unlikely to be required as the stumbling block in the Pogba move - Juventus' refusal to pay half of agent Mino Raiola's commission - has been removed after Woodward conceded defeat.

Meanwhile, everyone remains glued to Pogba's social media to see what will be the latest cryptic message on where he will be plying his trade come September 1.
We're really gluttons for punishment.
