But, according to Manchester Evening News, the Spanish stopper has already made his mind up about his playing future.
The report insists that while De Gea would have considered leaving for his home city if Louis van Gaal remained as United manager, the 25-year-old wants to stay and work under the incoming Mourinho.
De Gea and van Gaal endured a frosty relationship at times, primarily due to the fact that the goalkeeper almost left for Real on the final day of last summer's transfer window. The Dutchman consequently dropped De Gea for United's first six matches of the season.
But De Gea, who shares an agent with Mourinho, is keen on building a greater bond with the Portuguese than he had with his former manager.
