Neil Lennon was “disappointed” after being beaten to the Celtic job by Brendan Rodgers

Brendan Rodgers, Neil Lennon, David Moyes and Malky Mackay were all interviewed for Celtic's then-vacant manager's position.

The list of candidates was confirmed by Lennon, who has also revealed that he was disappointed by not being given a second chance at Parkhead. Lennon delivered three Scottish Premiership titles and two Scottish cups to the Hoops during his four seasons in charge but he left the club in 2014, and was appointed Bolton boss five months later. The 44-year-old left Bolton by mutual consent earlier this year and was one of the early favourites for the Celtic job once Ronny Deila left his post but the reigning Scottish champions went down a different route, appointing former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers on a 12-month rolling contract. “I wasn’t hurt, no. Disappointed, yes," Lennon told the Daily Record. “What’s for you won’t go by you. “I need to look at something else now and get a new challenge. “I know Brendan well. I actually went to watch him coach at Reading. “I saw him again when Bolton played Liverpool in the FA Cup. “He can phone me anytime but he knows that anyway. “I texted him to congratulate him on the job and if he needs anything, which he probably won’t because he is experienced enough anyway, then it’s not a problem.”
