Former Chelsea player Salomon Kalou could be fined €10,000 for damaging Berlin Wall

The fines most footballers have to contend with come from indiscipline or breaching a club's code of conduct. Salomon Kalou reportedly did something much worse.
The winger, who most of us remember from his six years with Chelsea, apparently made the terrible decision to take a hammer and chisel to the Berlin Wall while being filmed by Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenbury ahead of Hertha Berlin's 2-2 draw with Schalke on Saturday. Vandalisation of the landmark, which divided Berlin between 1961 to 1989, can be met with fines of up to €10,000 due to the fact that the wall is a protected monument. The news comes from the Berliner Kurier, which report that Kani Alavi, the chairman of the East Side Gallery, said:"I nearly fell off the couch when I saw the footage. Here we have a well-paid celebrity increasing his market value at the expense of a national monument. Without respect. And with the clear backing of television. "Just because there is no security patrolling the Gallery, it doesn’t mean you can go around doing what you want.
