Cristiano Ronaldo's ego set to reach galactic proportions with this new tribute.
In what we can only assume is a bid to one-up Lionel Messi, an entire galaxy has been named after Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo.
The
New York Times revealed details of the new galaxy named CR7, saying that it's "a recently discovered galaxy that existed when the universe was only about 800 million years old" and "is three times as luminous as any previously found from that time."
The galaxy has been christened CR7 for two reasons. Firstly, it's "s
hort for Cosmos Redshift 7, after the method by which distant objects in the universe are dated." and also because it was "inspired by the great Portuguese soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo, aka CR7."
So why did they chose Ronaldo, do you ask? The answer may be because the University of Lisbon were heavily involved in its discovery.
