Ian Madigan appeared overwhelmed by events in Cardiff yesterday and his team-mates are not letting him forget it.
“The lads are calling Gazza inside there at breakfast,” said full-back and try-scorer Rob Kearney today.
Madigan replaced Johnny Sexton after 25 minutes, and helped Ireland secure a famous 24-9 victory over France at the Millennium Stadium.
Ireland will now avoid favourites for the World Cup New Zealand in the quarter-finals and will play Argentina instead.
Madigan showed his emotion after the game as a full house in Cardiff showed their appreciation for a titanic Irish effort.
It is not known as yet if Madigan will start against Argentina as the initial prognosis on Sexton’s groin injury is “unclear”, but Peter O’Mahony is definitely out of the tournament with a knee injury and it looks bleak for Paul O’Connell.
