WATCH: BBC’s stunning tribute to Paul O’Connell would bring a tear to eyes of the hardiest souls

Stirring stuff

SportsJOE

The sense of sadness when Paul O’Connell announced his retirement earlier this week went far beyond these shores.

Tributes rolled in from far and wide as the rugby world paid tribute to one of the icons of the game.

There have been many touching words written and appreciations uttered but sometimes you just really need a montage to sum it up.

And no one does montages quite like BBC Sport.

Paul O’Connell was beginning his official post-playing career with a gig providing analysis for the Beeb in their live coverage of Ireland’s clash in Paris.

And at the top of the show they paid the finest of tributes to Big Paulie with this fine, fine montage with music from Gavin James.

It would bring a tear to your eye.
