Serious competition for the man Adam Jones dubbed ‘The White Samoan’.
One of the most frustrating aspects of retirement for Stephen Ferris has been standing back and watching Ulster and Irish players lining up to try and beat records he set in the gym.
Apart from being a combative, explosive blindside, who would have come in handy against Argentina last week, Ferris recorded some gym records that still stand for province and country.
However, Ferris tells us that he did not always have it his own way.
In this video piece [below], Ferris, who has recently released his autobiography, talks about how much of a gym “freak” Munster’s David Wallace was. He also reveals the biggest lightweight in the Ireland squad when it came to post-match sessions.

Good to hear that Rory Best is a man who enjoys a fine whiskey.
Ferris, meanwhile, was delighted to be presented with this specially commissioned piece by artist Fiona Lowe.
The art-work is centred around Ferris’ No.6 – the jersey in which he made his wrecking ball reputation – and features Ulster and Ireland colours.
