Video: South African player knocked out cold by juggernaut collision

When wingers and flankers collide

Patrick McCarry

The prognosis was ‘slight concussion’. It looked a lot, lot worse.

Mark Richards was knocked flat out when he ran head-on into Sharks flanker Willem Alberts. The left winger was chasing after a kicked clearance but arrived on the scene a split-second too late.

He found Alberts in possession and already steaming forward.

The collision, and pictures that follow, are sickening.

Doctors assessed him as having ‘slight concussion’ after Lions beat the Sharks 23-21. Positive update after a stomach-lurching hit.
