Wales international Adam Jones may have to cadge some lifts to training off his Cardiff Blues team-mates after he was hit with a driving ban, this morning.

The prop, according to the South Wales Evening Post, had his driving licence revoked, for six months, after he was clocked doing 36 miles per hour in a 30mph zone. Jones was on his way to pick up a best man suit for a friend’s wedding when his offence was picked up.

The 95-times capped Welsh international already had three driving offences – totalling nine points on his licence – over the past two years when, in June 2014, his speeding misdemeanor was caught on camera.

Tim Jones, who defended the rugby star in court, stated, ‘He is a professional rugby player and he is fairly well known. He is not a habitual offender, he is not a rogue. He is, believe it or not, a role model, irrespective of his lack of a haircut.’ The lawyer pleaded for leniency as any driving ban, he said, would place an undue strain on Jones’ wife and parents.

Magistrates, however, rejected all such appeals, banned Jones from driving for six months and noted that, due to his healthy rugby wages (an estimated £450,000-a-year), he could afford to hire a chauffeur.
