PIC: Welsh newspaper rubs salt in Irish wounds with front page message to “cocky Irish pundits”

"We can't believe you're not better"

Darragh Murphy

It’s hard to get too upset about this front page because, if it was an Irish publication, we’d be laughing our arses off.

The Western Mail is truly twisting the knife on Ireland’s 23-16 loss to Wales yesterday and mocking the comments made by former Ireland internationals Neil Francis and Keith Wood prior to the game.

Francis had compared Wales coach Warren Gatland to a “tub of Flora” in his Irish Independent column while Keith Wood had predicted a simple victory for Ireland.

But it was Wales who were the better team on the day and the Western Mail make no bones about pointing it out with a front page excerpt reading

“The Irish fans I spoke to found Francis’ comments an embarrassment. Thy weren’t too impressed with Keith Wood’s complacent predictions of a ‘comfortable’ victory either. The margarine barb was pathetic. We can’t believe you’re not better”

Oh we get it, the Flora thing.
