It was the news that Irish rugby fans across the world didn’t want to hear on Tuesday.
Prayers weren’t enough to keep Paul O’Connell’s World Cup dream alive, and the confirmation that he suffered a very serious injury in last week’s win over France on Tuesday was devastating to every Irish fan hoping for glory across the water over the coming weeks.
Dozens of tributes came flooding in for the Limerick man from former teammates and colleagues, and the news even made it as far as the London Underground.
ITV, along with London Underground operator Tfl, decided that it would be a good idea to try and keep commuters informed using the various services around the city about major news during this year’s World Cup.
And of course on Tuesday there was only one major story dominating headlines.
This picture, taken by Kerry woman Tara O’Leary, shows a message on a Tube station information board at Chancery Lane station, highlighting the very disappointing news about Ireland’s hero on Tuesday afternoon.
Tara admitted that the message ‘stopped me in my tracks and made me smile. And then sniffle, of course.’
We know how you feel Tara. We know exactly how you feel.
Pass the tissues.
