Now that’s dedication
If you’re brave or stupid enough to play in rugby’s front row, then expect to come off the pitch with all sorts of marks and bruises in unusual places on your body. What happens when the pack get up close and impersonal is best left to those in the thick of it, so this image of Mike McCarthy is a bit of surprise after Leinster’s Champions Cup win over Bath on Saturday
The former Connacht man is usually a few feet away from the rough and tumble of the front row as he is normally played as a lock, but it looks like he was throwing his weight around in all sports of unusual places in the narrow win at the Aviva on Saturday.
His Leinster and Ireland teammate,a man who probably has picked up more bruises than most over his long career is well impressed that McCarthy tackled someone so hard that their scrum cap left a clear mark on his right shoulder. We’re not sure which player it might have been exactly but we’re hoping their scrum cap has a ‘Turin Shroud’ like mark of McCarthy’s face on it. It is Easter after all.
Superb effort from @mikemccarthy6 in the row yesterday! Not often you see these on a non front row’s shoulders #horse pic.twitter.com/8oAH9QeIah
