They’re a hardy bunch, those Argentinians.
For so long they were excluded from the rest of the rugby world, forced to live off the scraps that the “real” nations gave them when they stopped by for an uncapped tour every now and again. But their doggedness paid off in the end and now they are one of the premier rugby nations on the planet.
It’s this never-say-die attitude that allows them to put up with shit like this.
Upon getting up off the ground from a ruck during a recent game in Tucumán, Daniel Contreras noticed that the top of one of his fingers was missing because an opponent had bitten it off.
“I couldn’t believe it,” Contreras said, according to La Nación. “The referee asked me to leave the game so that the doctors could attend to my injury. I didn’t react too much because my wife and children were there.”
Despite finding the tip of his finger, doctors were unable to reattach it because they were unsure about the level of bacteria in it after it had been on the ground. The Argentine now faces a surprisingly short recovery period of three months.
As for the finger, we can show it to you if you like – but it’s pretty gross.
Are you sure you want to see it?
Okay then…
