The Lions forwards played the oldest trick in the book on their backs after training today

The reactions were priceless

Niall McIntyre

There’s nothing better than winding up your team-mates after training.

Players can be emotionally charged after a training session. They can be buzzing around the place with excitement if the training session goes well, they can be emotionally drained if the training session was a struggle or they can be disappointed if they didn’t perform up to their standards.

No what happens in a training session, players are generally on an emotional high or a low.

Playing a little prank on your team-mates after training is a classic manoeuvre in altering their mood, be it bringing the excited lads back down to earth or raising the spirits of the disappointed lads.

There are many ways of doing it.

There’s the classic plot of hiding behind the dressing room corner, before suddenly ambushing your team-mates with a relentless water attack.

There’s the often master plan of hiding your team-mates towel on them when they’re in the shower.

Nothing, however, beats the trick the Lions played on each other in training on Thursday morning.

It’s the vintage ploy of tying your team-mates shoelaces together on their boots.

It may sound harmless, but Jesus it takes a while to untie them bloody shoelaces.

It’s things like this that indicate a positive team morale in the camp ahead of the Lions clash with the Maori All Blacks on Saturday.

They will need every bit of this team spirit over the next few weeks with the first test against New Zealand on June 24th edging ever closer.
