Leinster recruit World Cup winner on short-term contract

Sir Ted is coming to Ieland

Patrick McCarry

Good bit of business by Leinster and by Graham Henry.

Leo Cullen will welcome the World Cup-winning coach to Leinster’s UCD headquarters this preseason.

The New Zealander, who led the All Blacks to World Cup success in 2011, will provide coaching and leadership advice to the Leinster squad, as well as schools and clubs across the province.

Henry, who previously coached Wales and Auckland Blues, has been credited for a similar coaching consultancy role he had with Argentina before the 2015 World Cup.

Cullen is delighted to get ‘Ted’ in and what will have a wide enough consultancy brief. He commented:

“I felt it was important for myself and the wider coaching and playing staff in Leinster to look at different ways of challenging ourselves. To that end I am delighted that Graham has decided to work with us…

“Everyone in the organisation will benefit from his expertise and undoubtedly the coaches and the players will benefit from having a coach of his stature in and amongst us as we build towards the new season.”

Henry, for his part, has spoken of his privilege at being brought in on the role, which begins on July 30.

If he can put in a call with Richie McCaw and get him over for a similar, short-term deal for Richie McCaw.
