For the next five seasons, Adidas will be making Leinster rugby’s jerseys.
Leinster will move away from Canterbury and will have their kits exclusively made by Adidas from the beginning of 2018/19.
At the time of writing, that’s just about all we know about the new deal. We don’t know what the kits will look like, but we do know what Adidas shirts generally look like.
With this in mind, we’ve decided to conjure up 15 prototype Leinster jerseys based on actual ones the German sportswear manufacturers have made in the past. It may prove to be a means of predicting what the new Blues strip looks like. If past is prologue (we’ve already done this with Dublin and Mayo GAA jerseys) it more than likely won’t.
Here’s what we came up with.
Germany goalkeeper
Long sleeves and a football world cup badge, very bold design.
Bosnia & Herzegovina
It oddly works.
Ajax
This may work better as a Munster European kit. All it’s missing is a stag.
Mexico
Clean, crisp… ideal for a muddy rugby pitch!
Japan
We’re really banking on Leinster fans embracing a red collar here.
Real Madrid third kit
It’s different…
Well, different for a rugby jersey. It is the exact same as that alternative Madrid kit.
Germany away
Now we’re talking.
A rugby jersey so visually pleasing, it’s worthy of being team 33 in the football world cup.
Juventus
Arguably the most rugby-looking shirt of the bunch.
Denmark
Safe, but sleek.
Chelsea
The only problem with this is you’d run the risk of John Terry showing up to the Champions Cup final donning a full kit.
Just in case.
Netherlands
The marmite of jersey prototypes. Even those who claim they like it, really hate it deep down.
Flamengo
Not very traditional.
Bayern Munich
Even less traditional.
Belgium
Right, fuck tradition so!
FC Copenhagen
Perfect.
