It could have been a lot worse according to Joe Marler.
The England prop has opened up on how Sean O’Brien’s one-week ban may have been much stiffer if he had followed the Harlequins man’s fashion advice.
O’Brien will be missing for this Sunday’s World Cup quarter-final against Argentina after being found guilty of a punch on Pascal Pape during the 24-9 pool stage win over France last Sunday.
O’Brien was handed down a two-week ban but had one week taken off the initial sentence for his previous good character and that didn’t please everyone, with Brian Moore especially vexed
Read O'Brien decision – still can't see why good conduct at hearing is mitigation; as if you're going to act otherwiswe. IMO 2 weeks correct

But perhaps Sean turned up in a smart suit and had his hair gelled with half a factory full of gunk to make himself more presentable, unlike Joe Marler.
The prop forward told of how one appearance in front of a citing commissioner did not end well because of his rather unusual fashion choices
@brianmoore666 I got two weeks added to a ban for wearing a checked shirt, chinos and…… A bright orange Mohawk to the hearing

However Brian Moore hasn’t taken kindly to the reaction to Marler’s comments by Twitter users
@SimonArnold7 @JoeMarler @EnglandRugby do fuck off

And poor Joe looks to be all sad too
