Jacob Stockdale leaves the Scottish defence for dead with brilliant try

Jack O'Toole

Jacob Stockdale crossed for his 13th try in 16 internationals with a brilliant finish to exploit Scotland around the ruck.

Ireland head coach Joe Schmidt received some criticism last weekend for being out-coached by England counterpart Eddie Jones but this was a move straight off the training ground and it was executed to perfection.

Ireland flanker Peter O’Mahony took the ball from Conor Murray off the base of the ruck and ran across the pitch before dropping Johnny Sexton under with the reigning World Player of the Year hitting Sexton with a perfectly timed pass to send Stockdale racing towards the posts with the Ulster flier burning the Scottish defence to score Ireland’s second try of the game.

Sexton was replaced by Joey Carbery a shortwhile later after a bruising first-half where he was consistently targeted by the Scottish defence.
