Show us someone who thinks this drop goal is easy and we’ll show you a filthy liar.
Anyone who’s braving the infamous Irish December weather will know that the conditions aren’t exactly perfect for outdoor sports. Aside from the bitter cold, there’s also a pesky wind blowing that is wreaking havoc on games the length and breadth of the country.
Old Man Winter reared his ugly head during Malahide RFC’s 22-3 win over Barnhall on Saturday when full back Shane Breen was trying to take a penalty.
The ball became active once he started his run-up, so the opposition side rightfully began running it down to try to block it. When he was one step away from making contact, disaster struck as the ball blew off the tee.
Remarkably, it didn’t affect the player at all. With cat-like reflexes, he simply slowed down, picked the ball up off the ground and in the same motion, sent the ball sailing between the posts with a drop goal from the sideline.
