Here is proof that Connacht’s new rugby sensation has a secret GAA past

Not a bother to him

Kevin McGillicuddy

Handy around the square.

Not our words, but those of people who saw Connacht’s new star Nepia Fox-Matamua in action for a GAA club in Auckland, New Zealand a few years ago.

The Kiwi signed for Connacht earlier this year and has made a very bright start to life under Pat Lam, including grabbing a try in the weekend’s victory over Cardiff at the Sportsgrounds.

The 23-year-old was known to have played a bit of ball in his time with a GAA club called Marist Rangers and they have been tagged in a Facebook post this morning that shows the 23-year-old in action for the club by Auckland GAA

Matamua was know as a fairly handy midfield or centre-half forward according to all reports, and now we have the evidence as this picture shows him ready to sweep up some ‘dirty’ ball from a midfield contest

Not to put any pressure on him but if we don’t see at least a few high catches or diving blocks at some stage during the season we’ll be very very disappointed.
