Joe Schmidt, Garry Ringrose and Chris Farrell talk Grand Slam glory on The Hard Yards

Patrick McCarry

What a day. What a game. What a championship. What a Grand Slam. What men!

Ireland are the 2018 Six Nations champions after swatting away the challenges of their five closest northern hemisphere rivals. It began with a squeaky victory over in Paris, rolled on through a dominant home stand and ended up with a comprehensive 24-15 victory over England at Twickenham.

So it is a very special, Grand Slam edition of The Hard Yards and we hear from three of the men involved in bringing all the trophies home – Joe Schmidt, Garry Ringrose and Chris Farrell. Ringrose tells us:

“It was incredible stuff, St Patrick’s Day and at Twickenham.

“From my point of view for the week coming into it it was about trying to forget about that and it was just another game. As tough an opposition as it is, it was about asserting ourselves personally and getting the basics covered.

“The lap of honour was pretty special, my parents and girlfriend were over so it was nice to be able to share those moments with them.”

We also hear from former Ireland internationals James Downey and Kevin McLaughlin and look at what is next for Schmidt and his men, from summer tours to Australia, the November visit of New Zealand and the 2019 World Cup.
