WATCH: Chicago is going absolutely bananas and the Irish rugby players are loving it

Right in the mix

Patrick McCarry

“Do you know where I can find some booze? I’m asking everyone but they’ll all from f***ed up suburbs… Where are you from?”

“Ireland.”

“Oh.”

Oddly, that is the most sensible conversation recorded on the Chicago streets since around 11am this morning. That is when the Chicago Cubs rolled by down Michigan Avenue 19 buses [baseball teams are BIG] and a 108-year wait disappeared into the past.

Three million people are thronging the streets of Chicago as the city officially honours the Cubs for their thrilling World Series triumph on Wednesday night.

‘Go Cubs Go’, that cheesy classic, is ringing out on each and every corner of downtown and a lot of beverages are being sipped from cans concealed in brown paper bags.

The Irish rugby players are in town at the right time for a party but they can’t go too spare. Tomorrow, they take on world champions New Zealand at Soldier Field.

That doesn’t mean they are not enjoying the hell out of themselves and soaking up the glorious madness.
