Joey Carbery and Johnny Sexton could both be in doubt for Munster’s and Leinster’s respective matches against Benetton Treviso and the Glasgow Warriors this week.
Both players sat out their side’s return to the PRO14 last week as they continue to recover from respective hamstring and quad injuries while Munster head coach Johann van Graan confirmed on Monday that Carbery is a doubt for Munster’s Champions Cup semi-final against Saracens at the Ricoh Arena on Saturday, April 20.
Munster also said that Keith Earls was withdrawn from the squad before kick-off against Cardiff as a precaution with left thigh tightness and added that he will be assessed by the club’s medical department.
As for van Graan, he agreed to a two-year contract extension with the club on Monday and he said that the memories that he’s already had with the club can not be taken for granted.
“I am very happy and grateful to be in this position, knowing that I can continue to work with this incredible group of people and play my part in shaping Munster’s future. Coming to Munster I wanted to become part of the community, and every day I get to experience that sense of belonging with my family and settling in from the very beginning.
“Moments and scenes such as last Saturday week in Edinburgh with the Munster supporters, players and management make for amazing memories, they can never be taken for granted. This is a special place, a special club to be part of and I look forward to continuing the journey together.”
Meanwhile Leinster confirmed that Sexton will increase his training load this week following a quad injury and added that he will be further assessed as the week goes on while in more positive news for the club Robbie Henshaw and Devin Toner both returned to full training last week and are due to be available for selection this week.
