Zhou was involved in one of the worst crashes the sport has seen in a long time
Footage has emerged online from spectators who witnessed first hand Zhou Guanyu’s horror crash that red flagged the British Grand Prix after just one corner.
Zhou’s Alfa Romeo ended up sliding upside down after his car was hit by George Russell and flipped upside down.
When he made contact with the tyre barrier, his car flipped over, becoming lodged between the barrier and the front of the spectator stand.
Many in this stand were already filming so that they could capture the start of the race. Many therefore ended up filming the crash.
One person shared dramatic footage of the incident, writing: Huge smash at @SilverstoneUK hoping the driver is okay. Was a scary incident”

Alfa Romeo have confirmed that Zhou is conscious and is not seriously injured. The constructor said in a tweet: “Following a crash at the start of the British Grand Prix, Zhou Guanyu is conscious and now at the circuit’s medical centre to undergo evaluation.”
Along with Zhou, George Russell and Alex Albon both crashed out of the race. Albon was also taken to the medical centre and is being evaluated.
