Dana White, just a few months ago, said that he was “not a political guy at all, not even a little bit.”
But that seemed to change on Tuesday evening as the UFC president literally roared his support for the Republican party’s presidential nominee Donald Trump.
White took to the stage at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland to loudly explain his personal experiences with the divisive figure that is Trump.
Among other things, White revealed how Trump backed the UFC in its early years when its barbaric connotations made it a very difficult product to make palatable to an unsure audience.
Three of the first four UFC events of the Zuffa-owned era took place at the Trump Taj Majal in New Jersey and White claimed that he will forever be in debt to Trump for his willingness to put his name to the promotion back when so few would do the same.
“Donald championed the UFC before it was popular, before it grew into the successful business that it is now,” White said. “I will always be grateful to him for standing with us in those early days. So tonight, I stand with Donald Trump.”
