Ask the question, press record and wait for the words to flow.
Before he flew back to Dublin for a triumphant homecoming, Conor McGregor enjoyed a spot of lunch with MMA journalists [he waxed lyrical, they ate soup].
The Notorious was asked about a number of topics – Joseph Duffy, Ronda Rousey, Jose Aldo and more – but some of his most interesting responses were to questions about boxing world champion Floyd Mayweather and the money he brings in.
First McGregor disputed that his PPV and ticket-sales attraction is merely due to the overall growth of the UFC and not is star power.
‘As far as [the UFC] searching for stars since Georges (St-Pierre) and Anderson (Silva), bring George and Anderson back.
‘You think they’re on this level? You think they were 26 years of age with all these records, with these numbers? No they weren’t. Not even Floyd was 26 with this record and these numbers.
‘I have the game in the palm of my hand, and they know it, and I know it, and they know I know it.’
Asked about where he sees himself in comparison to Money Mayweather, the Interim Featherweight champion backed his own appeal.
‘I feel I am about to be here, eye to eye,’ he declared.
‘That’s where I feel I’m at. That’s a good thing.
‘There has been nobody in this game yet who has been there yet. That’s where I am – eye to eye.’
