Floyd Mayweather has an extra big mouth for the amount of times he’s managed to get his foot in it.
The now retired boxer seemingly took aim at Conor McGregor a few weeks ago when he claimed that racism in boxing still exists because of how differently his trash talking ways were treated by media compared to the Irishman.
“They say he talks a lot of trash and people praise him for it, but when I did it, they say I’m cocky and arrogant.
“So biased. Like I said before, all I’m saying is this: I ain’t racist at all, but I’m telling you racism still exists.”
At the UFC press conference during the week the Irishman, who also responded on Facebook in the aftermath of the comments, hit back at the boxing legend, remarking that he was surprised and disappointed that Mayweather would even try to bring him into an argument about race.
“I am a product of many cultures as a young, Irish man. I know he wasn’t saying that I am that person, but it put me in that bracket. I did not appreciate that one bit. There’s people buried in the desert for less than that.
“I think Floyd needs to learn before he opens his mouth. “You don’t put a man like me in a situation like that. You don’t put me in a name that’s got to do with prejudice. You don’t know nothing about me.”
And it seems that the message has gotten back to the boxer, who today claims that he does not care one jot if he hurt the featherweight champion’s feelings, but has also denied that he had any intention of calling the 27-year-old a racist.
“I never said that the guy, McGregor, I didn’t say I had anything against Caucasians…or white Americans, or white people or Irish.
“All I said is this, in this world, racism still exists.
“If he got offended, that’s life. Sometimes people get offended by certain things people say. Just me, I have tough skin.”
