It was the moment when Jose Aldo became an MMA superstar.
The Brazilian took on the then reigning featherweight champion Mike Brown at WEC 44 and wrote his name into the history books.
The manner of Aldo’s win shocked the MMA community, as the new champion, just 23, looked so well equipped to take on any challengers.
And so it proved, with Aldo seeing off every single person to step into a cage or Octagon with him since, and will be hoping to continue that record when he faces Conor McGregor in UFC 194 on Saturday week.
Ahead of the title fight, the UFC will premiere a special documentary on Aldo’s journey called ‘UFC 194: Born to Fight’ with the win over Brown seen as the champion’s most pivotal moment.
Aldo describes his preparation, his techniques to neutralise the American, as well as the road to getting the belt and what it meant to him at the time.
As a precursor to Saturday week it’s perfect to remind yourself how ferocious Aldo was, and still is.
